Unban * ?

I think we should not ban group of addresses with *@whateverdomain
There can be legitimate users at these domains. It's simply not true that they are all spammers.
For example, I just unban gmail to register Redeye who asked Sbando by email.
Domain free.fr is from a big Internet provider in France.
Many Czech actresses have their personal email at seznam.cz
And many people have no way to create a mailbox outside of their provider if we exclude gmail, yahoo, etc...

... so I suggest we only ban specific addresses user@domain

I disagree with you, @ nop, because I see it day in day out that there is HEAVY ABUSE of some emails.

That is why I put these on the ban-list (and - just for the record - since I did, taking care of the board has become much much easier, because I know how to keep spammers at bay). Frankly spoken, if you want to do things rather your way, do it. But, please, in that case do not expect me to do all the caretaking after you. I am already spending some 40 minutes (up to 1 hour per day to take care of spammers and all), but I can clearly foresee that with your decision it would need at least triple the time to keep this forum spamfree.

I am still of the opinion that in case there is somebody who wants in (and let that somebody have an email which is not allowed in general), this somebody will contact sbando and he will than manually activate this user. Period.

Think about. I mean, no hard feelings and all, but I seriously say that I will not spend more time (as I already do) to take care of spammers, just because of some decision which has not been properly thought through. justmy2cent

just lok at the new members, waiting for approval.

9 there are (right now).

Somehow 3 of them come from an email ....@gold-jew.com

Although I already KNEW that these are fakes I typed in gold-jew.com (at google) just to see what comes up. Not a single thing. There is no gold-jew.com website. So, what happens if *@gold-jew.com gets not put on the banlist?

Do your math.

Safety first. Nop may be right about popular isps, as opposed to web mails.

Curious about that one user. You write he comes from France. Typing in gundo23@gmail.com (which is his email adress) at google will lead you to some pages where a user named gundo is registered with this very email adress. In all his profiles it is given that he is from Spain. Everywhere he uses the nickname gundo. Why here and now Redeye?

Funny sidenote: This gundo dude is helping site admins by providing information about spammers. And you know what: It is exactly spam-boys sort of humor to use this kinda aliases. He did that before and sure will do it again.

Another thing: People like this gundo are firm with internet. People who are firm with internet have more than just one email account. So, once somebody like gundo relizes that he cannot come in with a gmail email, he tries with another one of his email adresses.

Plus: France is not exactly Spain (I know, in some places people believe that parts of France should belong to Spain, but that is another story).

For me enough reasons to carefully watch this Redeye user.

I think like NOP, ban all a domain or subnet is too large.

With popular template like phpBB, IPB or Vbulletin, it's easy to code scripts able to create automatically accounts on boards then spam them. So there are many bots with random emails which spam boards.

Anyway banning all emails from gmail.com or yahoo.com is not very useful especially for a guy who wants to become a member of EBI. Personally if I should try 5 or 6 different email addresses to register here, I would leave. And it's a potential member (like an Hungarian hottie!! ) who is lost... :|

So maybe it's would be preferable to relax banning for large/national webmails/ISPs/websites (when they are famous or trusted) and moderate spammer on an ad hoc basis by banning its IP/email.

I agree about the large isps, not so much about gmail and similar. If someone is really interested, he can find his way to the board anyway.
