I must've reset the list of ips while trying to unban someone.
Again, sorry. I'll constantly keep an eye on the forum and try to rebuild it.

....... who left whom alone this time? :?: :?: :?:

C´mon boys, that´s very far away from being funny! :!: :!: :!:

All blocked IP´s gone , all banned emails gone and the banned user list also was blank, when I logged in some 5 minutes ago .....

    :x

*Switches into sarcastic mode*
Well, thanks.
*Sarcastic mode off*

Just the small amount of 22 spammers used that scenario to register themselves within the last 24 hours. Guess that´s not that bad, or is it?

There was a problem when I restarted the apache server and mysql yesterday evening.
Also, I'd like to know if these spammers are real persons or bots.
But why do you ban *@gmail.com?
We always get emails from valid users who cannot register to the forum...

hmmm, .......

....... well, because 12 out of the forementioned 22 used an email adress ending with @gmail.com

Is there a way to prune users with less than 2 messages?
Do we need a mod or can it be done from the admin panel (looked but couldn't find it).

This time White it was the board's fault.
Do we back up posts and users on a regular basis?

no, ......

..... unfortunately with phpBB Forums there is no such option. That´s why spammers like this format of forum so much .....

Yes, every night.
I can give you the URL of the mysql backup file if you want one copy for you just in case (it's about 56 megs)

Also, on friday I've modified the code image generation algorithm of phpBB to prevent spammer bots to automatically register by using OCR software.
It seems to work, for now

The thursday problem was due to some clients repeatedly calling the forum register page and this page was slowing down our server because it's cpu expensive. This burst occured only on thursday and friday night though. See graph:

Is it possible to prune the user database, deleting all entries with less than one post?
