For the most part you are correct, but FYI you don't need an 8K screen to get benefit of the camera being higher resolution.

Early in the 4k era, one of the main advantages was the higher quality of material and higher flexibility during editing and production. Therefore, you had an advantage, even if you delivered in 1080p after all.
Even a direct downscale from 4k to 1080p was usually better in quality.

The same could apply for 8k. It provides you with the possibility to use digital zoom or pan. And you might(!) get better quality one scaling down to 4k.
On the downside, you need a lot of storage space.
I doubt though, that 8k will be a widespread resolution for delivery anytime soon.
And let's be honest: in porn, sometimes you really don't want to see every small detail

8K (or 2x4K) is an important step for the future of VR. But a bit useless for TV display. But who knows what porn will be, probably it will be needed to scan and rebuild someone in 3D and use it/she/he in the metaverse.

This is exactly what people told here and also around me when I started the 4K in march 2014 !!!

There is a massive difference trust me and if you have a 6K Apple display and a 95 inches 8K TV like me, well it's very enjoyable and one day most people will have 8K or even 16 K resolution in their living rooms ...
