Well, you're right, it's not just the Tour or the Giro or the Vuelta.
What I mean is that the myth of the biker as a superman that knows no fear is a bit phony nowadays.
I come from a country, Italy, that still idolizes bikers as heroes, Bartali, Coppi, Moser. Bartali used to live in my block and people looked at him as you look at a national hero. But God only knows what juices they were on, back then. Coppi's death was a shady one and rumors abound.
I just don't believe in the myth of sacrifice and fatigue of the humble biker anymore, considering how many TDF winners have been suspended or even arrested (one of them even committed suicide).
They should be considered as Barry Bonds. We know that he's a phony but the circus can't stop so we accept him and we're accepting all his records.
