Forum Netiquette

Postby noproblemo on Mon Apr 29, 2013 9:11 am

As suggested by Robot and in reaction to some recent flame wars in V.I.P. Threads and elsewhere,
I think we should publish and enforce some rules for posters and mods in the forum.
Please debate about these rules, we could then number them so mods could refer to specific rules when taking actions against posts.
Here is a first list of DO/DON'T, inspired by Reddit's etiquette:

PLEASE DO:
* ADMINS, MODS:
- Moderate based on quality, not opinion. Well written and interesting content can be worthwhile, even if you disagree with it.
- State your reason for any editing of posts.
* GENERAL
- Use proper grammar and spelling. English is the standard system of communication. Nonsensical sentences and Broken English should be avoided
- Search for duplicates before posting.
- Use care and tact when posting

PLEASE DON'T:
- Post links to pirate material
- Post someone's personal information (real name, address, telephone...). public Facebook photos must be anonymized by renaming the picture file name.
- Ask people to Troll others on the forum, in real life, or on other blogs/sites. EBF is neither your propaganda machine nor your personal army.
- Conduct personal attacks on other posters. Failure to comply will result in permanent banning. Needless to say, anyone attacking a MOD or ADMIN will suffer the same fate.
- Conduct personal attacks on models, agencies, producers. Failure to comply will result in a warning, then a 7-day banning if second time. 3rd strike => banned permanently
- Start a flame war. Just report and "walk away". If you really feel you have to confront them, leave a polite message with a quote or link to the rules, and no more.
- Insult others. Insults do not contribute to a rational discussion. Constructive Criticism, however, is appropriate and encouraged.
- Troll. Trolling Does not contribute to the conversation

The rules are probably neither complete, nor perfect, so your contribution and opinion is welcome. It is good that the MODs & ADMINs have diverse opinions, taste and character. However, as EBI staff we need to adhere to a common conduct in order to favor neutrality, facts, and maintain peace. I know for myself that I definitely strayed from these guidelines, and I am not the only one. But now, we will come up with the rules, and follow them from next month. The rules will not be retroactive but enforced right from the beginning of stated date, as soon as we get a consensus. If by end of next week nobody says anything, the rules as listed above will apply as is.

I don't read all the threads (limited time) but I didn't know there was a 'war'. Of course, I saw some flaming posts (about Blue Angel or Cayenne's escorting e.g), almost always by the same users (base users or producers), but I think closing the offending topic during a few days or one week is enough to calm everyone down (plus some limited bans if need be like insults or repeated trolling/illegal links).

The big issue is people who post a lot have often a big ego and think they are the king of the hill in their area. :D

I agree, just lock and delete. And a brief to medium ban (a week) for the offending poster, even if agent or starlet.
