Back to admin-approved, I think it's time to switch back, if we all agree.

So you don´t like to have control in your hands? After all, it´s your site, do whatever you want......

No, don't take it that way. We were discussing about this and so I decided to check with you and Stem, I'm not going to do whatever I want. I'm just asking.

I don't see a real improvement since we changed. we are just forcing even more the lurkers (silent readers) to do stupid postings. just so that they do not get kicked because of inactivity. don't you think?

Lurkers doing stupid postings? Nah, Frigo, I don´t generally think so. Ok, some maybe do, but far as I can see most new users, who decide to post, give us god and valuable content for the index. Which is good.

And those who just give stupid comments will find themselves kicked sooner or later. Which is part of the plan. Because at the end of the day (literally spoken), there will be zero bad, but only good users left. Plus of course friends and professionals. Closed circuit, so to speak. It´s an ambitious plan which will take me a couple of long hours to fulfill, but once the deed is done, everybody will know where they stand. Period.

Plus: Once we had admin approved registrations, I had to double-check between 15 and 25 new accounts per day. From those only between 2 and 5 were real persons, the rest was spam-bots. Those 2 to 5 real persons now apply via email. Which saves me at least 40 minutes per day (because I don´t have to double-check around some 25 email addresses and ip-adresses per day). This is exactly why I call the new way of registration a win-win-situation.

We're back to where we started, it takes us a lot of work (White) and very little effort to the people who really want to join.

Exactly. And that is why I don´t understand why every once in a while you come up asking for the next change (or for changing things back)?

But, hey, the lord walks in mysterious ways, why shouldn´t you too???

Man, it's not ME :), it's because people keep asking about this, plus, I''m not really the boss, it's four of us and people have diffent opinions, that's why I said that I'm just asking, I didn't raise the question. In my opinion the forum should serve only ONE purpose, contributing entries to the site, the rest is just kids babbling on about daps and free advertising for people who never cared to say thank you (Sineplex is just one fine example).

Yeah, I understand, because the same people ask me the very same questions.

And it´s exactly those people who want to be able to be "read only" users. Which is a no go, because as you very right stated: The forum is for contribution of news that can be used for the main page. No (as in zero) benefit comes from "read only" people. THAT´S WHY I ALWAYS ASK PEOPLE WHAT THEY CAN DO FOR US (especially those why tell me they need access to get their needed information.....).

Thanks for listening!

I've said it before: the site (and the forum at an even larger extent), has little to do with me anymore, it's not a hobby, nor a job.
People are second-guessing me all the time, like I owe them something, and in the forum posters hate the same things I created the site for (Woodman, soft models and the list goes on).

Let me add this: in 2009, 10 full months, all I did was trying to be a peacemaker, with people bombimg my balls about this and that, while my mother was dying. I can get tired really soon of all this and I mmight want to throw everything into the dust bin and restart from scratch.

Yeh, I know exactly what you mean. People have no respect no more these days and they take everything for granted. Because they think we owe it to them. And of course it has to be for free. Man, do I hate these sort of people.......

And because I hate this sort of people and their attitude, I defend the ways of registration as they are now: People have to apply and (at least) give the idea that they also are willing to give something! Other than that no account.
Period. Of course, some of those I deny then ask either you, Frigo or nop (and if they are lucky, one of the fore mentioned admins creates them an account) - but even this will not help them users much once they decide to be read only users. 4 weeks at last after registration and zero postings the account goes.

Second guessing? Yeh, that´s generally bad. Happens to me often too. Guess that has a lot to do with the fact that most of us don´t know each other in real life. But one thing is for sure: We should - no matter what - stand together. Let nobody be able to get between us. Which means: We have to trust the instincts of each other. Once one of us makes a decision (i.e. to ban an user), nobody should even ask about it. If it happens, the user has to contact the admin who took action and this is it.

Forum posters? Well, only some 20% of registered users can be taken serious. If at all any person who spends more time on the net than on fresh air can be taken serious........

Hence I personally do not give too much a shit about them users, their ideas and their likes/dislikes. But, judging from my side, all of us (admins) did listen way too much to every small request, to every demand and to every idea that came from users. We really should be more drastic about editing out what we don´t like. And if users have a problem with that, well, nobody forces them users to stay around.

Remember that Redeye user? He gave up posting, once the site went to "eyes of registered users only" and he stated to me that he was annoyed that now his posts have less hits as before.......
Well, poor person, if you ask me.
