Non contributors

Postby Mr_White on Fri Sep 04, 2009 11:14 am

Hi folks,

I still feel that all those non-contributors should get kicked out. Hence I started to inform those Newbies who haven´t had a single contribution in 4 weeks (or more). In case some1 is interested, here is the text of the PM I sent to those:

________
Dear members,

your account is active since more than 4 weeks and until now you have not posted once.

Please be informed that we do not want "read only" users here. We want contribution. Please feel free to contribute. If you don´t contribute, your account will be deleted shortly. We do not want our database filled with persons who are non-contributors.

Thanks for your understanding,
Mr_White
on behalf of the management
________

Which @ sbando leads me to another question: Is the number of registered users important for you in any way at all? If so, I may not delete "read only" users? Please lmk, thanks.

If it (the number of registered users) is of no importance, I maybe will also start to look through the archives. Guess there must be hundreds of users who haven´t posted ever.

btw, house about the idea to make more parts of the forum invisible to those who are not logged in? IMHO this would also create massive new registrations (who under the given rules have to contribute, if they want to stay active members).
More contribution makes this forum more informative, hence this should create more traffic. Right? If so, this sounds like a win-win situation to me......

No, the forum is just that, contributors are needed to post pictures or links, their number is irrelevant. I even suggested to make the forum private.

Okay, I was in some changing mood and made most of the forum private. Let´s see what happens. My guess: Within the next couple of weeks the new registrations will triple.

If this brings up new users who come up with info on some regular base, this should have a positive effect on the main site, I guess.

more than 300 since yesterday evening. And 10 new pages at the Newbies topic, which means some 100 of those 300 actually are able to read and react. I will look into these now and start activations......

......... and I am very curious how many of these actually will start posting.....

Frankly spoken: This is way more than I can handle alone. I was expecting some 50 Newbies per day over the next couple of weeks, but that (more than 300 in a couple of hours) is HUGE.

Hence my conclusion is: I pulled the plug and stopped registrations. At least for some time being.

Ok, fine by me. People who want to be contributors should introduce themselves and ask for an account.

This is also an idea worth thinking about.

btw, time and again I think it would be helpful to have an EBI-email of my own. Would that be possible? I mean I do not want my web.de email made public all over the net and I guess it would be easier for all of us if requests by "newbies" would directly be lead to me (via Mr_White@eurobabeindex.com ). What you think about this?

A technical question: How do I create a new user?

So far I didn´t find a "create new user" button. :?:
