Ps: I open this topic with a song whic is not well known. I think it's a good idea to find the rare nuggets.

To "Wyatt"

Postby Toffeeman on Sat May 10, 2008 9:54 pm

To play the most unmelodic, wierdest song on the juke box to empty the pub in the shortest possible time.....

....anyway this is the first song that popped into my head in response to the CCR (not that I have any problem with CCR - far from it). It's just that this seemed to be the most diametrically opposed piece of music I could think of (and I like it).

There was a little mistake on youtube: it's a Matching Mole song not a Robert Wyatt.

Robert Wyatt......

Postby Toffeeman on Sat May 10, 2008 11:24 pm

Well I guess it depends on how you define ownership. Robert wrote it, sang it, and who's heard of Matching Mole these days?

Do you know why Matching Mole is the best pun employed in the service of a band name?

Anyway, if I'd called it a Matching Mole track I wouldn't have been able to use the Wyatting intro.

And now I'm thinking I should have used a Band track....perhaps later

Camarillobrillo,

Not that much damage! Personally I never really "got" Zappa but then he is one that divides opinion - you either love or hate him.

Did you ever see the Old Grey Whistle Test video for City of Tiny Lights? It's here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9DAIkAWR-I. Pretty wierd.

A wonderful valley of the queens featuring the marvellous voice of Annecke van Giesbergen.
There's a great Valley of the kings of Nico but I don't find it on the web.

I know, i know...and yes it's all like that :D

Modern and Contemporary Classical music often make this effect... and besides that, apart that it usually takes some time to get into, it's another clear case of you either love or hate scenario.

That's unless you get some 40 something years old music composer
that in 2008 is mocking '700 and '800 writings...
wich in my opinion is much worst.

Modern Classics?

Postby Toffeeman on Sat May 17, 2008 2:39 pm

Well I am not a great fan of classics at all but I do like music with melody. M Varese doesn't seem to give you much in the way of melody.

I do quite like like some Nyman (mostly in film soundtracks), Gershwin, Copland and Randy Newman's film work (but then I worship Mr Newman).
