Using the search

Postby hopless3 on Wed Aug 06, 2008 3:23 pm

When I came to add my post to the Jane F thread I had to find it.

I went to her model card only to be sent to the old BBS thread.

Then I used the search to find "Jane F" I got 142 answers so I tried "Jane" I got 142 answers.

To make it more awkward the right answer was something in the region of 85th in the list.

What would make this easier is if in the search you had the option to only search the names of the threads. That would have produced a list of about a dozen far easier to sort through.

Looking through the search results I found 2 threads called "adds for Jane F" and "Add for Jane F....".

I actually found the wrong one first, inspite of it being futher down the list, simply because there were too many answers to read easily.

Also since the board uses "Additions for" , "Adds for" and "add for" then we cannot know the full name of the thread to try and hone down our search.

A final point is that since all of these are in the additions section the thread only needs the girls name

IE "Jane F" not "adds for Jane F", "Add for Jane F....". or "Additions for Jane F".

..... me Tarzan, you Jane.

Be happy that you was not looking for some Eva. Would have given you much more headache.

Unless we forget about names and start numbering the girls you will always have a hard time to find exactly and quickly the lady you are looking for.

it is a lot of work to change all those old comments-links to the new forum-links. All new models get the new links directly and the old models are changed whenever we come in touch with their index. Takes time...

I wasn't meaning to complain, I just tend to give too long an explanation when I describe things.

I also did not take it as a complain, I only wanted to explain

what I ment to suggest is that we should be able to just search the names of the threads.

That way my search for Jane F would have produced about 12 -14 answers (and I'm sure it would help the guy who searched for Eve) a much more managible sum.

If it isn't technicaly possible to do this ok I just thought it would make things easier.

As to the suggestion we number them can you imagine the fight there would be for no 1

Though I guess some of the girls would try their charms on the admins to get it. (lucky admins  )

Another question about the search function: Since we have treads of up to 90 pages would it be possible to get pointed to the page a looked for girl/act/word etc. is mentioned first instead of being directed to the tread index only? Maybe also highlighting the searched for word in that tread?

that would be great indeed but we are limited to the functionality that phpBB is offering. If you find a solution/addon, just let us know!

As Frigo says, any modification to the standard code is not likely.

Err!!!.. that search functionality is already there!

If you want to find the post rather than the topic, simply tick the radio button on the search page to "post".

(Had me somewhat confused for a while as because I was thinking to myself that searching a post over a topic would be a very simple code modification. I then thought that it would infact be rather crazy to have not included it in the original phpbb build otherwise everyone on the phpbb developer forums would be asking for it. I then decided that it had to be there and lo and behold....)
