I did nothing like this at all, although I confess my post was not very clear. I have heard too many times my posts are too long. So I guess I am making them too short now.

I don't question cell division. I do question the comparison between cell division and the history of EBI/EBT. The process of cell division -- "cells divide into two identical copies" -- does not describe what happened in the case of EBI/EBT. There was neither 1 single cell, nor are there copies now. Hence the judgement of "wrong on both counts".

Instead of biological growth, you should look to processes of social conflict to describe the EBI/EBT split.

OK, now I am boring all over.

Holy sinister SQL invasive techniques & attacks, is this getting complicated or what? So what's a EBT again?

In fact, it did split and duplicate... just not completely :)

I still have an 88mb download of the EBT database but could not restore it as the user table was lost when the server timed out. I think Frigo and I tried multiple times to get a full download in vain.

I did restore what I had on a testing forums on one of my servers but could not really find a way to make the data useable without recreating around 4000 user accounts. I decided that this was not a practical solution.

I was told that if I asked Russell, he would actually give me a complete dump of the EBT database but as this forum has taken off and is now established, it seemed a pointless exercise to attempt a complete site restore (even for an archive it would be pointless).

Merging this SQL database and the old database was another possibility, but again the user tables will be out of synch. Ultimately, I decided stuff it..

I have got a complete backup of EBT which is about a year old that I made when the site was apparently being attacked from a rogue hacker who was for some reason deleting data randomly. However, after further investigation it was revealed that the data loss was down to the fact that the EBT programmer/tech had added some bad code which was deleting posts at random....

So, in conclusion... it duplicate does exist just its not complete and its not needed :)

I now agree 100%. At the beginning I did not want to loose all our old postings but now I do not care anymore about EBT. We are doing way better here now!

I dont agree:
I (and not onyl me!) have put a lot of efforts in different lists and especially dap related stuff at EBT and I dont want interested folks to refer to them to search for it. It would be much more smart ti include those posts as an archive here - the more as it was mainly Frigos, nops and Sbandos effort to have EBT running and us all contributing them.
I really feel like they have stolen my work! :x

That's the whole point, it's not a choice we made, we got kicked out.

But as mentioned in my post, the complexity to accomplish this task would probably require more work than you simply copying and pasting your stuff from EBT... so, feel free to copy and paste away :)

There are cool perhaps even painless ways of archiving with open access.

Steve, this is what I got in a PM from Boom.
Maybe this could be an easy solution?
Me, I dont have a clue in such matters, though. :?

They are just shells but still a very cool way to preserve both the old familiarity of the long-gone & associated access to content therein.

So, here is our motive: Making harmless & clever suggestions. This is indeed a common murder motive to say the least not to m,ention unceremonious bannings. As I empathize with our perpetrator (I'd would have loved to have 5 minutes alone with that scum!) I must do my job. I am bound by the law. I live it. I AM.
